SUPER RARE PRINT - Vintage 1970's Original Jams 'Carnival' aloha shirt. Wearable art and history!
Vintage Medium
Pit-to-Pit: 22"
About the 'Carnival' featured on shirt:
The Hawaiʻi Promotion Committee, in efforts to encourage tourism to the islands, created the Mid-Pacific Carnival in 1904 as a public celebration of the multi-ethnic culture found there. In 1916, the Mid-Pacific Carnival merged with the separate but highly celebrated Kamehameha Day Parade, and in 1978 the legislature renamed this event/holiday King Kamehameha I Day.
About Surf Line Hawaii/Jams World:
The man: Dave Rochlen
The year: 1963
The location: Hawaiian Islands
The inspiration: Founder Dave happened to see an article in Life Magazine, featuring the exotic Russian pajamas and robes donned by beachgoers at Black Sea resorts. Inspired to create his own colorful, surf-friendly swimwear line, he purchased some brightly printed fabric and asked his wife, Keanuenue, to help him make a short pajama with modifications.
