Lovely antique powder jar/bowl in very good condition as you can see in the pictures. No damage. Beautiful 91 year old vanity collectible.Very rare.
The hallmarks on the sterling silver band surrounding the top of the jar are as follows, and I am also stating the meaning of each.
•S&M: (makers mark) Sanders & Mackenzie
•Anchor: Birmingham (made in Birmingham, England
•Lion: Sterling Silver. All English pieces that are true sterling silver will have the walking lion
•G: denotes the year made, per their chart, 1931
The jar measures 3-1/8” in diameter and 1” tall.The silver band is 3/8”. The jar could possibly be crystal. It has a ring to it when tapped, rather than a thud, which makes me believe this is crystal. The sterling silver lid is 2-1/8” in diameter and 1” tall to the top of the little knob. It has a cursive monogram initial on top which could be viewed as either a W or an M, depending which way you have it turned.
